The chemical industry has experienced its boom just after the 50s, as oil was revealed as the wonder material, the magnificent compound; the chemical engineering had to develop a new field, the petrochemical science, thank to which the 20th century have known a huge amount of different chemical compounds, with physical and chemical properties pretty usefull: plastic is one of those compounds that proceed from oil. But plastic is, as well, one of the today’s most dangerous waste; its chemical formula is not easy for nature to break and the material lasts sometime many years, and the pollution it causes kills daily parts of the biosphere (some tortoises eat plastic bags thinking it is a sort of jellyfish which they like to eat, and die asphyxiated).
Every firm that plans to make and offer new products must pact a new social contract with society in which the firms undertake an ecological responsability, specially firms that produce cleaning products and every chemical company must to establish hard work lines to manage their impact on the environment. And people from all nations must unite to demand the same from the enterprises that sell us the products we use every day.
Every learning process takes its time, and human learning process with industry has taken a lot, but now, that the main problems are being pointed out, and that our societies have learnt a lot about how to manage different chemical compounds, it is time to engage us all to find the solutions, using the knowledge and finance-ecological activities to save the planet.
