We take it for granted and yet... for a long time sitting on a chair was the privilege of the kings, nobility or clergy. Each was a piece of art, carved and painted, plated with gold and studded with jewels. Considering such an ancestry we should show more respect to our good old dining chair but, it's so familiar we almost forget it's there. We should keep in mind though, that at some point our ancestors only had wood benches to sit on, and be grateful when we settle in our favorite leather club chair with a good book or the TV remote. We never are, of course, but let's consider... what would be an evening on the front porch without that good old rocking chair ; a nice day by the sea wouldn't be the same if we didn't have a comfortable beach chair to sit in; even when we go camping in the wild, we make sure to bring our favorite folding chair along. And if we stop to think about it, chairs today are still a symbol of status; once we get to sit in a leather office chair at work, it usually means we've reached some level of authority. So next time we take a chair, let's remember such a privilege wasn't always granted to all.

Brought this back from storage. Gaby was really happy to see the old chair again.
