The taxes that are collected by the federal government, when you earn money from work or business are called federal income taxes. Every year as early as November and mainly in march and April , Canadians fill the Canadian federal income tax forms to report their earnings and pay what is due to the government or get are fund from the government or a federal tax refund for taxes that were over collected. Every business has to have a federal tax id number that identifies it and makes it easier to process its transactions with the federal taxes Canada. Filling out a federal income tax form is not that hard for an individual but it is more complex when it comes to a business and is best left to experts.

Not every one or every business is taxed at the same level. In order to protect low income earners and small business there is what is called the federal income tax bracket. This determines how much one will pay in taxes, it is dependant on how much one is earning. Those who earn less pay less.

Still there are also ways to avoid paying too much for taxes. Business owners and real estate owners can make federal income tax deductions of costs and reduce the amount of taxes they have to pay. For other people they can make savings like RRSPS which allows them to pay less tax.
