Do you hear the call? No doubt you hear it loud and clear if you’ve played a Call of Duty game before! In this latest instalment, the battle takes place during World War II. You play as an American soldier fighting in the South Pacific and as a Russian soldier fighting from Russia all the way to the Nazi-held Parliament building in Berlin. You alternate as both characters much like what was done in Halo 3 with Masterchief and the Elite outcast. As the American solider, you are lead by a Soldier whose voice is played by Keifer Sutherland so 24 fans will be tickled pink–particularly by those who wish Bauer would swear once in a while… As the Russian soldier, you start off in Stalingrad in the famous Vassili Zaitsev (Enemy at the Gates) scene.
The gameplay resembles very much that of its predecessors. During the campaign, there are two particularly fun stages in each campaign where in one of them (the Russian campaign) you get to use a tank to decimate your enemies and in the other (American campaign) you man the gun turrets of a fighter plane over the pacific. Online play is currently very popular for this game. You play as either Russian, German, or American forces.
A special option in the offline and online multiplayer (available after a number of consecutive kills) includes releasing of dogs to defeat to the other players. One final noteworthy feature is the Resident Evil-style “Nazi Zombies” mode that is unlocked by finishing the campaign mode. You are basically stuck in an asylum and have to defend yourself against an onslaught of attacking Nazi Zombies. This feature has become the favourite mode for many C.O.D.5 fans.
