The first cd of Takis Barbas, entitled "RomAntique" came out in 26th of June. You can find it at CD shops all over Greece. All compositions and performances in clarino, bansuri (Indien Flute), nei (Arabic flute), tabla (perc. indian), oudou (African), ocean drum, / darbouka, bedir, rek (perc arabic) / hi-hat, bells, Epirus def, are played by Takis Barbas

TAKIS___BARBAS
Born in 1967 in the city of Ioannina in North-West Greece. His need to be near the sound of any percussion instrument leads to him to the quest of his first teachers. In 1979 he begun his professional career in music. In 1984, influenced by the international musical trends, he settles in Paris, where he immerted into types of western music new to him. There he starts an intensive cycle of studies at the “Ecole Supériere de Batterie, Dante Agostini” and performs live with musicians from Armenia, Turkey and various Arab countries, enriching his affiliation with the music of the East. At the same time he teaches rhythm of traditional greek music. In 1990 he receives his teaching certificate and the first prize of interpretation and technical ability. In 1991 founds in Thessaloniki the greek department of the Agostini, one of the 33 in Europe, where up to 500 pupils of every age and level, several of which are now renowned performers and teachers. Next stop of his quest is India, where he lives for a year in Benares, studying tabla, bansuri, santoor and vocals with professors of the Benares Hindu University, widening his musical horizons and researching the similarities and common ground between indian and greek music. Parallel to that, during those years, he partakes in a large number of performances and recording in Greece and abroad, with groups of various musical styles. In 2005 teaching “The practice of rhythm” and “Specializing in traditional percussion” at the Faculty of Music Science and Art, of the University of Macedonia, spares him to write of lectures containing the necessary teaching material.

Γεννήθηκε το 1967 στα Ιωάννινα. Η ανάγκη του να βρίσκεται κοντά στους ήχους των κρουστών κάθε είδους, τον οδηγεί στην αναζήτηση των πρώτων του δασκάλων. Το 1979 ξεκινά την επαγγελματική του ενασχόληση με τη μουσική. Το 1984, επηρεασμένος από τα διεθνή μουσικά ρεύματα, εγκαθίσταται στο Παρίσι, όπου εμβαθύνει σε καινούρια, για εκείνον, είδη της δυτικής μουσικής όπως Latin, Jazz, Big Band, Reggae, Afro κ.ά. Εκεί αρχίζει έναν εντατικό κύκλο σπουδών στην Ανώτατη Σχολή Ρυθμικής και Κρουστών “Dante Agostini” και εμφανίζεται με μουσικούς από Αρμενία, Τουρκία και Αραβικές χώρες, εμπλουτίζοντας τη σχέση του με τη μουσική της Ανατολής. Παράλληλα, διδάσκει ρυθμούς της Ελλάδας. Το 1990 αποσπά το δίπλωμα διδασκαλίας C.E.S.M.A. και το πρώτο βραβείο ερμηνείας και δεξιοτεχνίας. Tο 1991 ιδρύει στη Θεσσαλονίκη το ελληνικό παράρτημα της Agostini, ένα από τα τριάντα τρία της Ευρώπης, στο οποίο έχουν σπουδάσει ως τώρα περί τους 500 μαθητές κάθε ηλικίας και επιπέδου, αρκετοί από τους οποίους είναι σήμερα επώνυμοι εκτελεστές ή καθηγητές. Επόμενος σταθμός αναζήτησης είναι η Ινδία, στην οποία διαμένει για ένα χρόνο στο Μπενάρες, σπουδάζοντας τάμπλα, μπανσούρι, σαντούρι και φωνή, με καθηγητές του Πανεπιστημίου BHU, διευρύνοντας τους μουσικούς του ορίζοντες και μελετώντας τα κοινά σημεία της Ινδικής και Ελληνικής μουσικής. Παράλληλα, τα χρόνια αυτά, πραγματοποιεί πολυάριθμες εμφανίσεις και ηχογραφήσεις με σχήματα διαφόρων μουσικών στυλ στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό. Ανάμεσα σε άλλους, με τους Damian Luka (Ρουμανία), Ross Daly, Dilek Koc (Τουρκία), Arsen Seffer (Αρμενία), Ziad Rajab (Συρία), Santosh Kumar Mishra (Ινδία), Γρηγόρη Καψάλη, Ξανθίππη Καραθανάση, Ξύλινα Σπαθιά, Τρύπες, Χαΐνηδες, Λόλα Τότσιου, Βασίλη Καρρά, Κώστα Μακεδόνα, Λιζέτα Καλημέρη, Κατερίνα Κούκα, Θεοδοσία Τσάτσου, Αλκίνοο Ιωαννίδη. Η διδασκαλία, από το 2005, των μαθημάτων “Ρυθμική Πρακτική” και “Ειδίκευση στα παραδοσιακά κρουστά” στο Τμήμα Μουσικής Επιστήμης και Τέχνης του Πανεπιστημίου Μακεδονίας τον ωθεί στη σύνταξη μιας σειράς τεσσάρων συγγραμμάτων με την ονομασία “Λαβήρυθμος”, τα οποία περιέχουν το απαραίτητο διδακτικό υλικό.

Dimitri Barbas est né à Ioannéna en 1967. Son besoin constant de se trouver près du son des percussions de tout type, l’a poussé à rechercher ses premiers professeurs. En 1979, influencé par les courants de musique internationaux, il s’installa à paris, où il approfondit ses connaissances dans des styles, nouveaux pour lui, de la musique occidentale comme le Latin, le Jazz, le Big Band, le Reggae, Afro etc... Il commença là-bas, un cycle intensif d’études à l’Ecole Supérieure de Rythmique et Percussions “Dante Agostini” et fit des apparitions sur scène en compagnie de musiciens d’Arménie, de Turquie et de Pays Arabes. Dans le même temps il enseignait les rythmes de la Grèce. En 1990, il obtint le diplôme d’enseignement C.E.S.M.A. et le premier prix d’interprétation et de virtuosité. En 1991 il fonda à Thessalonique l’annexe grècque de l’école “Agostini”, l’une des trente trois existantes en Europe, au sein de laquelle 500 élèves de tout âge et de tout niveau, ont étudié jusqu’aujourd’hui et nombreux d’entre eux sont à présent de célèbres percussionnistes ou professeurs. Un stade ultérieur fût l’Inde où il séjourna un an à Benarès, étudiant Tabla, Bansouri, Sandouri et voix, auprès de professeurs de l’université BHU, élargissant ainsi ses horizons musicaux et analysant les points communs entre la musique indienne et la musique grecque. Toutes ses années là, il ne cessa de se produire sur scène et d’enregistrer en studio en compagnie de musiciens de différents styles en Grèce et à l’Etranger. En 2005, la tâche d’enseigner les cours de “Pratique rythmique” et de “Spécialisation Percussions” à l’institut “Science et Technique de la Musique” de l’université MACEDONIA de Thessalonique, le pousse à rédiger une série d’écrits qui recouvrent le matériel didactique nécessaire.
