Breast cancer is the most common cancer type found in women. It usually starts in the glandular tissue of the breast. The most common breast cancer type is the ductal carcinoma.

Stages of breast cancer are:

Stage 0: non-invasine breast cancer
Stage 1: The tumour measures up to 2 centimeters and no lymph nodes are involved.
Stage 2: The tumour measures between 2 and 5 centimeters and cancer has spread to lymph nodes.
Stage 3A: The tumour is bigger than 5 centimeters and the lymph nodes are significantly involved.
Stage 3B: The cancer has spread to the breast skin, chest wall or internal mammary lymph nodes.
Stage 4: The cancer has spread in the body.

Signs of breast cancer include lump or swelling in the armpit, changes in breast size or shape, dimpling or puckering of the skin, redness, swelling and increased warmth in the affected breast, inverted nipple and crusting or scaling on the niple.

Causes of breast cancer can be the age, genetic, dietary or hormonal causes. It is important to mention white women are affected the most by breast cancer.

Treatment for breast cancer includes surgery, radiation therapy, herceptin, hormonal therapy, chemotherapy and targeted therapies. If the cancer is detected at an early stage, the survival rate is higher than if it were discovered at a later stage.
