I love jewelry, but my favorite accessory outside of my diamond earrings, are bracelets. They come in so many different styles and colors now, its sometimes hard to decide which one to wear. Let’s take a look at the history of the bracelet and some popular styles that are out now.
A bracelet is an article of jewelry which is worn around the wrist. They are often made from leather, cloth, metal or plastic and sometimes contain gemstones, rocks, wood or shells. Egyptian bracelets date back to 5000 B.C. Made out of things like wood, bones, and stones, serving religious purposes and spiritual interests.
The bangle bracelet can sometimes be smooth, textured or set with stones. In India, glass bangles are common. Made from ordinary glass, they are worn in groups so that the arm movement causes them to make a pleasant sound, almost like wind chimes.
As an accessory, a white gold bracelet can add style and sophistication to any outfit. White gold is an alloy of gold and at least one white metal, usually nickel or palladium. Like yellow gold, the purity of white gold is given in carats. Becoming an increasingly popular met, white gold varies in price depending on the carat weight.
Magnetic bracelets have gained popularity in recent years, especially among those who are into holistic healing. Less for style and more for its presumed healing properties, magnetic bracelets are often used for the relief of arthritic pain, wrist pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, muscle pain and stiffness. It is believed that magnets reduce the swelling and inflammation associated with arthritis.
Beaded bracelets are my favorite. Often made from handmade beads, the bead bracelets come in a variety of colors and the beads themselves, in a variety of shapes. Silver beads, gold beads or colored beads are often used to create shimmering effects. Similarly, pearl bracelets are made in much the same fashion. Made from black pearls, Tahitian pearls or cultured pearls, the pearl bracelet adds an elegant touch to any style.
Cuff bracelets have recently made a comeback. Usually made of gold or silver, they are wide, sometimes as wide as two inches, and offer the wearer a distinguished accessory that will set any outfit apart from the rest.
Finally, baby bracelets have always been a favorite. Most often given as a spiritual gift to a child for protection, baby bracelets are usually made from gold or silver. Many times, the child’s name is engraved on the bracelet and worn throughout the first years of life.
