Did you know that the game of Billiards has three different variations? It is true! The game of Billiards is considered a gentlemans' game. At one time, many wealthy men had Billiards halls in their home. Here they could unwind a litte with their friends. Billiards was also played by those of the royal standard such as Marie Antoinette and Louis XIV. The games they played may be the same or slightly different from the standard game of Billiards.
The tables meant for Billiards are more complex in style and are made out of very, very good materials. At one time, the Billiards tables were made out of fine cloth. During the fifteenth century this was known as a Billiards' cloth specifically. The first one was formed by Iwan Simonis in the year 1453. Of course the most common type of Billiards' is your standard game. The rules of Billardsare very similar. So what is the slight difference between these three games? The most noticable difference is the number of balls that are required to be hit at the table.
What are the other two variations of Billiards? There is the English game of Billiards and the version of Billiards called Three-cushion Billiards. The English game dates back to the 1800s. It is played on a six by tweleve foot table and requires two cue balls. Three-cushion Billiards is a more sophisticated version of the game. It requires that a player must hit two balls as well as three cushions on the way to the hole. This takes great skill and practice!
