Beer is considered as one of the most ancient forms of alcoholic beverages in the world. It is made out of the fermentation of starches mainly that of barley, rice, corn, and wheat. Most beers usually have hops in them which acts as a preservative and also gives some bitterness to the beer.
Beer can be served in a bottle, on tap through a draft or keg, or in cask-conditioned ales.
In terms of health risks, beer contains alcohol at different degrees depending on the beer brand and composition. The same health hazards that apply to alcohol intake in too large a quantity, apply to beer as well.
When consumed excessively, beer can lead to alcoholism, liver disease and cancer.
However, the yeast that is contained in beer is a good source magnesium, potassium, and vitamin B. Some people refer to beer as "liquid bread" which is why filtered beer can be said to lose most of the aforementioned nutrients.
