The battery, when dead, is very harmful to the environment, therefore should never be disposed in a normal garbage disposal, but brought to a proper, specific place that will proceed in its eco-friendly disposal. Which ever kind of battery it may be -li ion battery , acer battery , alkaline battery, etc.-, inform yourself on how to treat it when it has reached its life point. Another way to proceed is to, once you have disposed of your normal batteries, equip yourself with rechargeable ones and, obviously, a battery charger. You don't have to limit yourself to an aa battery charger, but can buy one that includes and charges every kind of battery. In that optic, you help the environment and, on the long terms, save some money. Also, many products nowadays -like digital cameras for example- require rechargeable batteries to function better and last longer. As for toys battery, sometimes integrated in the toy and impossible to take out, well, bring the whole toy to a place that recycles and reuses different objects. It's at least worth it to inform yourself. A trip to those kinds of places is only needed maybe twice a year. You simply maintain a corner of your house and apartment of things that are harmful for the environment if not treated before disposed, things to give, and stuff that you don't need anymore, replaced, etc. The important thing is, basically, to get informed...then to act.
