In ancient days they were called Taprooms, and every Inn had one. Pubs, Taverns, Saloons or 'Cafés'... the Bar, by any other name remains the place where peoples gather at the end of a hard workday or on Saturdays, to enjoy the company of friends. In these days and age specializing is the word and many bars have followed that trend, providing entertainment for every tastes. Bachelors in search of a soul mate will head for a singles bar on Friday night, while the singers at heart will favor a Karaoke bar to spend their free time, and the hockey fans, of course, will gather at the local sports bar. Comes the weekend the music lovers will likely seek a live Jazz bar, and those enjoying smoking and involved discussions will probably visit the nearest Cigar bar. Over time the very word, Bar, has become synonymous to gathering; there's no place like the salad bar to talk about diets... although that particular topic is usually avoided by those more attracted by the pasta bar. Bars have a distinct appeal, from the roadside bar with its traditional atmosphere, to the urban bar, elegant and sophisticated. The world may change around us, but to celebrate a salary raise or cry over a lost love, nothing will ever replace the street corner bar.
