bananas
The banana is a very nourishing fruit. The banana is common in our life: banana cake, banana chips, banana for breakfast. However the banana doesn't come form our land.

How does the banana come in our plates? And why is it so cheap? The answer to those questions seems to be because of the geopolitical situation of the regions exportating the bananas.

More seriously, the banana should get us to question ourself about our alimentation habits. Why depend on a fruit that needs to be imported? Why does the banana market ain't a profit for country's exportating banana's? Or who is the moneymaker in the banana market?

It is difficult to answer these questions. But alimentation is the base of economy. It is then important to ask questions about what we eat and what it imply. An aliment that come form a source is part of a monopoly: it's price is gonna be fixed. Since the consumer has a choice between eating a banana or an apple, the consomation price cannot be majored. However, it can be reduced by lowering the production costs by doing monoculture.
The banana maynot be pricy, but this price has a social price to also considerate.
