Back pain is also known "dorsalgia". Back pain is pain felt in the back which usually originates from the muscles, nerves, bones, joints or other structures in the spine. The pain can often be divided into neck pain, upper back pain, lower back pain or tailbone pain. Back pain may have a sudden onset or may be a chronic pain. The pain can be constant or intermittent, can be localized staying in one place or may radiate to other areas. It can be a dull ache, or a sharp or piercing or burning sensation. The pain which is present between the shoulder blades or in the upper back is known as mid back pain.
The chief low back pain symptom is pain in the lumbosacral area (lower part of the back).
There are several measures taken in healing back pain. Some of them are as follows:- (a)Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) are the back pain medicine which is usually indicated for the relief of back pain. (b) Back pain exercises can be an effective approach to reducing pain, but then it should be done under the supervision of a licensed health professional. (c) Transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS)is utilized to relieve the back pain, (d) Acupuncture, (e) Spinal manipulation is another back pain therapy, etc.
Surgery may sometimes be appropriate for patients suffering with Lumbar disc herniation or degenerative disc disease; Spinal stenosis from lumbar disc herniation, degenerative joint disease, or spondylolisthesis; Scoliosis or Compression fracture.
To prevent back pain specific exercises and postural modifications are a must. Proper posture must be maintained while sitting, standing, sleeping, lifting, etc.
