What does an archivist do? A person who has jobs as archivists care, and store important documents, books, news archive or films. Speaking of which, I think the job of a movie archivist would have been my ideal job had I truly thought about it when I was young. Imagine being in charge of the celebrity movie archive or even the classic movie archive and knowing all about movies from the 20’s and 30’s. I would be able to have access to any movie I want. I’m such a fan movie fiction buff, that this would be my ideal position only I didn't know of any job openings at the time. Just thinking about being able to archive and match harry potter as much as I want makes me deliriously happy. Yes, I would have loved to work in the video archive of any of the big production studios. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately at the time I was looking for a career I didn’t know of any job opportunities as a movie archivist. It may be just as well because had I known of any jobs openings in the movie archives I probable would have decided to do that instead of continuing my computer science degree. Sometimes when I go to the library and have to look through old news archives, and look at any old photo archive of old movies I still wonder what it would have been like to work as a movie archivist.

I was very sad to learn today that Utah Phillips passed away on the 23rd. It was my privilege to be soundman for him on his numerous appearances over the last 8 years at Stage 2 of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival.
His stories, gentle humanity and his steadfastness of spirit will linger long in my memory. I'm sure gonna miss you, Utah..
I took this candid portrait of Utah last year as we waited for the main gates to open in the morning for the last-ever running of the 'Birkenstock 500', the mad dash to obtain the premium blanket space in front of the evening concert stage.
