Have you ever found that when you want something to stick, it won’t and when you don’t want it to it does? Using glue or adhesive can often be like that. The tricky thing with adhesives is finding the right one for the right job, and then applying it correctly. With all the amazing products on the market today it can sometimes become a little confusing.
Most of us probably keep a tube or aerosol can of ‘all purpose’ adhesive that does the job for many things. A hot glue gun can be useful for many creative purposes too, and is sufficient for holding many things together. You wouldn’t use a hot glue gun though to mend your best bone china. For this you need a strong specialist adhesive made for the job.
For some jobs you may need to use an industrial strength adhesive. Make sure you read the instructions carefully and use with good ventilation and a mask. Often the adhesives that require some mixing before use prove to be the most efficient, but not always. As with any task you undertake do a little research, and don’t be afraid to ask for advice. While an adhesive may state on its packaging that it will hold this or that does not necessarily mean it is the ideal product.
To a large extent the more precious the item you need to fix or adhere to another the more specialized the adhesive you will need. 3m adhesives are a trusted brand that can offer the best adhesive for any job requirement. 3m command adhesive strips are a popular choice for home decorating such as picture hanging where you need strength, but also the ability to remove an adhesive without leaving marks.
Removing adhesives is often a problem. Scratching away at adhesive labels that just seem to stick and stick can be a real nuisance. Keep a bottle of nail polish remover (acetone) on hand for those really stubborn ones. If you need to know how to remove something like super glue, try acetone first. If that doesn’t work you can try sanding it off, or using warm water and soap. You can even buy a super glue removal product, at around the same price as the glue!
