Like every other year the academy awards have been watched all over the country and have gotten way better ratings than those of its counterparts in the music business. The academy awards for motion pictures are a 79 years old US institution. The academy award winner is not only the best American movie but is also considered to be the best one in the whole world. It was especially true this year. Indeed, the 2006 academy award nominees came from all over the world and not only in the foreign language movie category. The spanish movie Pan's Labyrinth was the most represented among all with 6 nominations and 3 statues won.

Fast facts: the 79th ceremony was hosted by Ellen de Generes, February 25 2007 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. It was broadcasted on ABC and gathered almost 40 million viewers in the US only.
