Until recently I had no idea what abandonware meant. With a little search I found out that the word includes older games or software no longer in use and, frankly, it opened whole new horizon.
Software are expensive... video games even more. I discovered that searching the abandonware sites can save me quite a bit of money. Not to mention the sheer pleasure of finding games we played 10 years ago. It always brings a shill of nostalgia for some reason.
It's not all about memories though. My nephews were not even born when Spirit of Adventures was first published in 91. It's now an abandonware game and the boys enjoy it tremendously. Through abandonware downloads they've also discovered the Realms of Arkania and many more.
There are more practical use for abandonware too. Most of us have a old PC somewhere in the house, an old thing not up to dealing with the newest software. I found that an abandonware windows version gave mine a whole new life and dug out all sorts of older software I can use on the old beggar.
If only to save money, abandonware games and software are truly an option worth looking at, and frankly, from vetustware.com to abandonware france , there's a pretty good chance to find what we're looking for.
Old doesn't necessarily mean bad... and abandonware is proof enough.
